Math Games for the Classroom: No Worksheets Needed
Math facts and number sense improve fastest through spaced, playful practice - and the classroom versions of that are games. The twelve below need no worksheets and almost no materials.
They double as warm-ups and transition fillers, which means they earn their time back.
Fact practice games
- Around the World - two students race on a fact, the winner travels on.
- Beat the Caller - a class Buzzer-style fact race where the whole class shouts the answer.
- Number Battle - partners flip cards and compare, add or multiply the digits.
- Buzz - count around the circle, but any multiple of 7 is "buzz".
Number sense games
- Guess My Number - yes/no questions to find a hidden number.
- Building Bridges - use given digits and operations to reach a target.
- Estimation Station - estimate a jar, group, or measurement, then check.
- Place Value Show - build numbers with digit cards on a place value mat.
