Icebreaker Games
15 fun activities to help students connect at the start of the school year.
1. Two Truths and a Lie
Each student shares two true facts and one lie about themselves. The class guesses which is the lie.
2. Find Someone Who...
Students walk around with a worksheet and find classmates who match each statement. Great for getting students moving and talking.
3. Name Game
Students stand in a circle. Each person says their name with an adjective that starts with the same letter. The next person repeats all previous names.
4. Human Bingo
Create bingo cards with traits like "has a pet" or "speaks two languages." Students mingle to find matches.
5. Speed Friending
Students pair up for 2 minutes, answer a prompt, then rotate. Like speed dating but for friendship!
6. Marshmallow Challenge
Teams build the tallest tower using spaghetti, tape, string, and a marshmallow on top. Great teamwork icebreaker.
7. Would You Rather?
Post two options. Students move to different sides of the room based on their choice. Explain their reasoning.
8. All About Me Poster
Students create a mini poster about themselves with drawings and words. Share in small groups.
9. Emoji Introductions
Students draw 3-5 emojis that represent their weekend or interests. Others guess what each emoji means.
10. Classroom Scavenger Hunt
Give students a list of things to find in the classroom or school. First to complete wins!
11. Partner Interview
Students pair up and interview each other for 5 minutes, then introduce their partner to the class.
12. Letter to My Teacher
Students write a short letter telling the teacher about themselves, their goals, and what they need.
13. Human Knot
Students stand in a circle, grab hands with two different people, then work together to untangle without letting go.
14. Classroom Constitution
Students brainstorm class rules and values, then sign a "constitution" together on the first day.
15. Mystery Box
Place an object in a box. Students reach in (without looking) and guess what it is by touch alone.
