How to Play

  1. Choose a theme: Select vocabulary that matches what your ESL students are currently learning.
  2. Generate and print cards: Create bingo cards with target vocabulary words. Include pictures alongside words for beginners.
  3. Call with context: Say the word and use it in a simple sentence. "BANANA — I eat a banana for breakfast."
  4. Students find and mark: Students find the word on their card and cover it.
  5. Verify by reading: When a student calls "Bingo!", have them read each word on their winning line to practice pronunciation.

Tips for ESL Teachers

Add Pictures

For beginner ESL students, include small images next to each word. Picture support helps students connect English words to concepts they already know in their native language.

Use in Sentences

When calling words, always use them in a complete sentence. This models grammar and helps students hear words in context, not in isolation.

Pair with Worksheets

After bingo, use our worksheet generator to create matching or fill-in-the-blank exercises with the same vocabulary for homework reinforcement.

Cultural Connections

Use food and home vocabulary as conversation starters about students' cultures. "What is your favorite food?" builds speaking skills alongside vocabulary recognition.
